Recently, I had posted details on the fake medicine from Narasipura, Shimoga that is been served by one Mr Narayanamurthy as a cure for all cancers. The message reached far and wide on Facebook and Whatsapp. In response to this, I have had people abuse me online and calling me an agent of chemotherapy pharmaceutical companies (screen shot attached) which is expected because that is the only way a common person and franchisee/supporter of Shimoga Fraud without true knowledge of health and medicine will respond. I am not an Oncologist (a cancer specialist), I do not prescribe chemotherapy medicines to my patients because my line of work (liver and biliary disease speciality) and associated cancers are mostly chemotherapy and radiotherapy resistant. This means that I do not have any constant contact with chemotherapy pharmaceutical companies and I do not need such associations. But I will not stand by and watch frauds destroy patient lives. I will also fully oppose any agent of these frauds, any well wishers of such fake healers and all those who work against science and evidence-based medicine. I do not have any regard for such persons. The only people that matter are patients and their primary care takers, family members. Making money in the name of fake healing and fraud advertisements on such fake practices is the lowest possible way to earn a livelihood. People such as the cancer healer from Shimoga and the recently criminalized Jacob Vadakancherry and Mohanan Cherthala are such. In the hierarchy of medical practice and science, they are bottom feeders who work and make their livelihood and money through fake claims and fraud practices that suck and leech on patients’ and families’ grief and hope. Unacceptable.

The reason why I decided to write strongly on this is, because an old video clip of a documentary on the Shimoga fake cancer healer Mr Narayanamurthy has been doing intense rounds on Whatsapp after his fraud has been exposed. The video clip is attached below. Worshippers of this fake Shimoga healer and franchisees of his treatment, the latter who are even worse than the healer himself have been advertising this video clip as a BBC documentary on the powerful treatment of Narayanamurthy. Yes, maybe Bharananganam Broadcasting Corporation, not British Broadcasting Corporation. This video clip is part of an old documentary featuring the British actress Caroline Quentin called “A Passage Through India” that aired on ITV channel in the UK in 2011 [http://docuwiki.net/index.php?title=A_Passage_through_India]. This clip is in no way on the treatment effects of the fake cancer medicine. If you watch closely, you can spot so much stupidity in the video.

In the video, at minute 2:00, Caroline asks Narayanamurthy, who is cutting at the bark of a tree what the bark is used for. And he says – throat cancer. He says, a drink every 24-hour made from the bark of the tree for 90 days cures throat cancer. Throat cancer is of 2 types – pharyngeal cancer (which is again of three types – nasopharyngeal, oropharyngeal and cancer of the hypopharynx) and laryngeal cancer (or cancer of the voice box). These cancers are again divided into, based on biopsy into adenocarcinoma or squamous cell carcinoma. Does this tree bark drink take care of all these types? What about a person in whom the throat cancer is so advanced that he cannot take anything by mouth? How will he drink this and get cured? Or do you give this tree bark medicine as an enema in such cases? How stupid can one get? Even monkeys in the Shimoga forest can understand that this is extremely fake, but not the Whatsapp Specialists and magic believers who want to give all their money to this fraud.

At minute 3:02 in the video, Narayanamurthy takes the lady to another tree and says – Thyroid cancer! This particular tree bark powder can cure thyroid cancer. Thyroid cancers are of 9 types [just look at Wikipedia, it is not rocket science –https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thyroid_cancer#Classification]. Yes 9 types, based on the biopsy findings and treatment response and treatment options are very different for each. But this one tree can cure it all. So why don’t all of the thyroid cancer patients just go to this tree and have a feast?!

Now the next bit is my favorite. At minute 3:26 in the video, Mr Narayanamurthy goes to a big tree, cuts the bark and says, Blood Cancer. And Caroline says, treatment for Leukemia?. And then the sap of the tree, which is red in color starts dripping. And she shouts! Oh blood red in color! Seriously. Come on. If anything, and everything red in color could cure blood cancer, why go to Shimoga? Go to the nearest supermarket and buy some tomato ketchup and you need to stand in a smaller queue.

Murthy says he has been doing this for 40 years. Then Caroline asks him, how long does it take to become a cancer healer, and he says 40 years. What the hell. So that means he’s just become a healer after 40 years of experimental training and he is only getting to understand what is going on. Or maybe not. Nothing is clear.

At minute 6:33 Murthy says people come here because of their belief and their confidence. Not because he has cured anyone and he has not claimed ever that he has cured anyone. The people who claim of cures are those who make statements without evidence on Facebook or Whatsapp. I have not seen any patient self-claim of a cure after eating and drinking all those tree parts and no one directly related to the patient claiming of cures. Facebook and Whatsapp are full of statements like – ‘My friends father’ or ‘My neighbor's mother’ or my dog’s best friend’s owners husbands nephew’ got cured. But never direct statements of cure from the patient or their family members. Seriously have you seen this? You can see such statements below my post very soon. Just watch out for those.

If you have evidence of real cure from cancer by using Murthy's Bark Medicine, you should post it as below:

Diagnosis, images of diagnosis (radiology or others), blood reports of tumor markers, biopsy of cancer confirmation – then after Murthy’s treatment, evidence of cancer remission – in the form of repeat images, biopsy reports, blood reports of tumor markers and if possible, patient photos – both before and after treatment. Those who continue proper modern medical management along with Murthy’s magic powder, don’t even bother. Do that instead of just typing stupid things about imaginary cures. This is your chance Fekus. Do it with proper evidence as requested above.

Now the ‘cherry on top of the cake’ in the video. At minute 6:50, Caroline asks Murthy if he has something for her arthritis. He gets up, takes his big knife puts it through a random bark lying somewhere in the room and says – Rheumatoid arthritis bark. This is just insane. She then gets the same old instruction slip (which I had posted before) – the same for the cancer cure which is same for arthritis treatment also! Wow. Just wow. You can actually look at Caroline’s face and make out she’s having a really good time listening to this man talk complete rubbish. Its like sit down comedy instead of stand up.

Murthy and his minions have now started pick and drop service from the main road to the treatment center, charging 300 rupees. Now that’s even more money to the fraud. Previously he used to give the bark and asked the person to prepare according to the slip instructions. Now he has upgraded himself. He powders different tree barks himself and puts them into three sacks. Now a person comes and says, I have a patient with blood cancer – so Murthy takes 30% from sack one, 60% from sack two and 10% from sack three for blood cancer. Another person comes and says, I have a patient with brain tumor – so Murthy takes 50% from sack one, 20% from sack two and 30% from sack three. Incredible. Just by changing the portions of the powders from the same sacks, he treats ALL types of cancers. Absolute rubbish.

Now this video is proof of foolishness and clear evidence of disrespect towards people’s health and clinical medicine. And people who support such videos and forward such videos are directly or indirectly leading to early death of a cancer patient or death of a cancer patient for whom a potential cure is possible. Stop doing this bullshit and let people who truly understand the human body, medical facts and scientific reasoning take care of health and associated matters. Stop circulating this misery. Dear people, take a break from Whatsapp and have a KitKat. It might save someones life.
