Recently, a 60-year-old man visited our outpatient department for loss of appetite. He was diagnosed with cirrhosis of the liver as well as a liver tumor, hardly five centimeters in size. He was advised to go for a simple ablation procedure where the tumor is burned from outside, under local anesthesia which is the treatment of choice as per current guidelines.

However, through word of mouth and through fantastic Whatsapp messages, the patient landed in front of the 'cancer-healer' and traditional Ayurveda practitioner, Mr Narayanamurthy at Narasipura, Shimoga District, Karnataka. The Ayurveda man prescribed him a powder (made from barks of tree surrounding his home) and advised him to restrict food immensely (an act that is extremely dangerous for patients with cancer as it drains the body of all required energy sources and wastes the muscles in the short term). After two months of religiously following the Ayurveda practitioners orders, the patient lost sixteen kilos, developed new onset jaundice and fluid accumulation in the abdomen. Realizing that the magic drugs were not working, he rushed back to us for the ablation/burning procedure. But it was too late. Ablation procedures on the tumor are contraindicated in presence of severe liver disease signs like jaundice and fluid collection in the abdomen (ascites), which this patient had developed while on alternative treatment. He was painfully referred to a palliation center to spend the time that is left, in comfort care. Another life lost too early. The moment the patient's family realized their folly (like many others and the list is growing), it was too late. But before the patient's son left for home, to keep his father under comfort care, he gave me whatever was left of the Shimoga Miracle Cancer Powder for analysis. My group put the Powder medicine through an intense analysis test in the best of labs in Cochin.

And this is what we found:

1. Heavy metals - Boron, manganese, arsenic, cadmium, nickel, mercury, antimony, thallium, cobalt, vanadium and lead - some of the worst of heavy metals that can kill liver cells were present in this powder formulation. 2. Pyrones - these are natural plant chemicals that are anxiolytics - that is, they decrease a persons fear, calms them and relaxes them - it has nothing to do with cancer cure. They behave like sedative hypnotics in modern medicine - like Alprazolam or Diazepam. These Pyrones are banned in many parts of the world and many drug societies and health departments caution against their use because they are highly liver toxic. Yes, you read that correct - they are liver toxic and this was what a man with cirrhosis and liver cancer was prescribed! We could not find A SINGLE active agent with cure/control potential in the Shimoga Medicine Powder. Even after knowing all of this and reading all about this, if patients and their families choose to go to the fake and fraudulent Shimoga Cancer Healer for a cure, then God save them.
